I am originally from Paris, Texas. I graduated from Texas Woman’s University, in Denton, Texas, in 1986 with a BS in Dance and Health with Secondary certification. In 1987, I moved to Colorado with my husband, Daryl. I added Elementary Education certification in 1989 during a brief move back to Texas for about 6 months. We then moved back to Colorado and other than 4 years in Tennessee from 1994-1998, we have called Colorado our home. We have two daughters. Emily is 25 and Alyssa is 22.
Being a mom was the best and most difficult job in the world. I stayed at home with my girls until Alyssa started 1st grade. I then worked as a Para for 2 years and substituted in the classroom for 2 years before I applied for my Colorado Certification and was lucky enough to get a job here at Meridian in 2004. At that time, I was a 40 year old first year teacher. I taught Kindergarten for 8 years and am now enjoying teaching my fifth year as a 2nd grade teacher. I can’t express how fortunate I feel being able to teach your children here at Meridian.
First and foremost, I believe in building a feeling of community in our classroom. I want your child to feel as comfortable here as he/she does in their home. I believe that by creating a family atmosphere, the kids get along better and tend to become protective of each other. This allows kids to feel safe enough to speak their thoughts and ideas without the worry of being critizied by their peers. I absolutely do not allow kids to be unkind to each other or say unkind things to each other. I make sure they understand this from day one. We will all be respectful of each other. This way, our days at school are filled with fun times and lots of learning!!
