Hello fifth grade families! My name is Jessica Horvath and I am thrilled to be joining the Meridian community! This will be my tenth year in teaching and I am very excited to be spending it with your fifth graders. After graduating from UNC with a degree in Communications and an emphasis in Elementary Education, I began my teaching career in Jefferson County where I taught 2nd, 4th and 6th grades. I obtained my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University and, after marrying my husband, we moved to Longmont. I taught 4th and 5th grades as well as Gifted and Talented until my first son was born. After raising my two young boys who are now 12 and 9 (how does that happen so fast?!), I returned to teaching in St. Vrain and now I am so happy to be a Meridian Mustang!
My teaching philosophy is, “Teach to Inspire,” and I am honored to be able to work with your children this year. I see each of my students as unique individuals and I look forward to getting to know all of them as well as your families. I strive to create an environment that is respectful, supportive and safe where all students are able to reach their full potential. I enjoy challenging my student to think critically, problem solve and work both independently and collaboratively to reach our goals.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and friends. I grew up in Boulder and am fortunate that my extended family still lives in the Denver area. Whether it’s getting up into the mountains or playing on a beautiful lake, my husband, boys and I love being outside and spending time in nature. I enjoy walking, hiking and paddleboarding and many of our weekends are spent cheering our boys on at soccer tournaments or track meets.
Being the last year of elementary school, fifth grade is a milestone year for both students and their families. I understand and appreciate the significance of the year and hope to make it a year, not only of challenge, growth and achievement, but also a very special year for all of us to remember. I look forward to a fantastic year with all of! you!
