Lost and Damaged Books
We encourage all borrowers to practice careful handling procedures with all library materials. Please be aware that many, many books are damaged due to water bottles leaking in backpacks. We encourage students to carry books back and forth from school in Ziploc bags to help protect them. Please stress to your child that books should be kept away from food, water/liquid, puppies that chew, and toddler age siblings who do not yet take proper care of books. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Depending on the grade level, students may check out one to three books at a time to take home. Books are due back or must be renewed after two weeks. If a book comes back damaged or becomes lost, the student will be able to check out one less book until the charge for the book is paid. In order to remove the book restriction and charge, a student may:
-
Pay for the book
-
Donate a similar book that is library ready (Hardcover on a similar topic or genre)
-
Work in the library before or after school (Restrictions will be lifted based on quality of work in the library)
If a student has lost or damaged more than the amount of books that they are allowed to check out, they can still check out one book, but will keep it in the classroom until the debt for lost or damaged books is paid. Books lost or damaged in a previous school year should still be remedied by the student, but will not account against the student’s book limit. If a lost book is found in good condition and returned within one year, the money will be refunded. Pay for lost or damaged books online at www.payforit.net
