Meridian's One Book, One School
One Book, One School
Meridian is excited to host our first One Book, One School. Our entire school, from K-5, in-person and remote, will be reading The Very, Very Far North by Dan Bar-el. This event kicks off Read Across America on Tuesday, March 2nd. All teachers will be provided with a copy of this book to read to students. We want to also invite families that would like to read along to purchase a book if they wish. The Very, Very Far North by Dan Bar-el can be purchased online for $7.99 from Amazon or www.barnesandnoble.com.
We can't wait to embark on this reading journey with you!
We encourage families to also get involved. The last page of the students' Reader's Guide packets have a Family Bingo that includes fun activities the whole family can get involved in. The Family Activities Bingo is also attached as a pdf below. We set up a Flipgrid where families can record a brief video showing their participation. To post to Flipgrid, you must use your students' Adams 12 email account. Flipgrid videos should be submitted by March 31st.
Families are also asked to help students make a Reading Buddy. A polar bear template will be sent home with each student. The craft can be constructed out of felt or paper. This template is also included as a pdf below.
Reader's Guides will be given out to students. There is a primary version and an intermediate version. Remote students' families can pick these up in the vestibule by the main entrance during regular school hours. There are stacks with the grade level and remote teacher's name indicated.
Students and families can listen to podcasts of the chapters. The current week's chapters will be made available coinciding with our school's pacing of the book. We will be reading about three chapters per week.
