Meridian Academic Awards

With great honor, we announce that Meridian Elementary has received both the Colorado John Irwin Schools of Excellence Award and the Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award from the Colorado Department of Education. On March 1, 2017, Superintendent Chris Gdowski celebrated Meridian Elementary, along with eight other district schools, in an awards ceremony at the Colorado Department of Education in Denver.

Meridian Elementary is proud and honored to be one of 56 schools in the state of Colorado (out of 1,734 schools) to receive both of these awards this year.

Colorado John Irwin Schools of Excellence Awards

The John Irwin awards, named after former Colorado State Representative, John J. Irwin, are given to schools that demonstrate excellent academic achievement. On the three-year school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools “exceed” expectations on the academic achievement indicator.

Colorado Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Awards

The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework that is used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools "exceed" expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and "meet or exceed" expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.
